movie pitch #1

a teenage girl and her family, scientists who work for the government, move into a deserted neighborhood on some kind of research mission. apparently a deadly plague wiped out the whole town, and no one has been there since in fear the disease was contagious, but i guess further studies had proven that the air was fine. anyways, so they were a few of the first people to begin to inhabit it again. the creepy part is, though, is everyone's cars are still there and their houses are still furnished and all the street lamps are still on.
okay.
so the girl is an only child and her parents don't pay attention to her because they love the country more (for the greater good, of course), so she goes for walks at night, and on these walks a bunch of creepy shit happens, like she sees people running away in the shadows of the street corners, silhouettes in windows, voices, etc. she stops taking walks for the most part, until creepy shit starts happening to her in her house, like seeing people crawling around in her backyard. so she's like, oh man, this town is haunted with ghosts of the plague victims.
so seeks the counsel of one of the few who inhabit the town, an older woman who lived right across the street. she had been overseas on some journalism project or something when the plague hit, and then chose wisely not to return till it blew over, even though she lost some loved ones. she still lived in the same house she had lived in before, which is creepy. anyways, the lady tells her a bunch of creepy shit about the town, like the ghosts of the people still haunt it and etc. so she thinks it's ghosts for while, but then she starts going for walks again, where she realizes
THAT OLD LADY IS FULL OF SHIT.
while she was walking, she realized that this whole time she's lived here the sprinklers went off and the air conditioner systems were still running. SO WHO WAS PAYING THE BILLS?
so she decides to figure it out for herself, and jimmies open the backdoor to one of the houses. she starts going through their stuff and looking at all the photo albums and eating the canned food like olives and soup, when she hears a weird noise. she explores the sound, which leads to a bedroom, but before she could open the door, it opens and some CRAZY ASS LOOKING GUY whose skin is falling off and bubbling and peeling, and he can barely walk because of the sores over his limbs and oh man it's just so gross and painful looking, opens it and makes weird noises and crawls to her. so she runs away, and he hobbles after, but of course, she makes it home safely.
that freaked her out so she confronted the old lady and she revealed that everyone had leprosy, and she introduced the girl to her leper husband and children that she took care of, and that there were a lot of people who lived in the houses taking care of them etc.
so the girl is pissed at her parents and was like, HOW COME YOU DIDNT TELL ME THIS WAS A LEPER COLONY? and they were like, because it's a top secret government mission. no one knows about the leper colony, and if they did, the world would go into a panic. anyone who talks about it gets killed. but the truth is, no one can catch leprosy because we are all immune to it now, the only reason these people caught it was because the government injected their water supply with something that lowered their immunity and then put the leprosy virus into their water supply somehow to see if people with lowered immune systems could catch leprosy, and ultimately decide if aids victims could catch leprosy.
the answer was yes.
the family was there simply for follow up research.
