I saw a movie in 3-D glasses for the first time that wasn't at Disneyland or Universal Studios, but at an actual theater! It was Monsters vs. Aliens, which was a generally boring movie, but the 3-D made it super intense. I almost couldn't handle it at first, but then it seemed natural.
This has heightened my desire to see Half Blood Prince in 3-D, and, hopefully, I-MAX, when it comes out. As you can see, we've got about three months left to wait. Think you can? I KNOW I CAN'T!
Also, I'm listening to some old Bright Eyes right now, and I'm wondering how Conor Oberst used to get away with that shit. It's thanks to all the people like me, who, at ages 15-17, was definitely obsessed. And then I went to see him in Berkley after drinking some red spacebag, and he played a bunch of crappy songs from his soon-to-be-released album, I'm Wide Awake It's Morning. I mean, he played all the ones I skip now. It's not like anyone had ever heard any of those songs before, and we want at least a few songs we recognize. He did play June on the West Coast and Waste of Paint, which are great, but pretty random choices that I guess a lot of people there wouldn't have known. Obnoxious tangent. Anyways, now I can handle the overly manic depressive suicidal crap for nostalgic purposes, but if he was still making music like that, I doubt he would be taken seriously. He could go play at Warped Tour maybe.

Langerado
has been cancelled.
No trip to Miami in March. No Broken Social Scene until who knows when. I thought I wouldn't have to go a whole year without seeing them, but it looks like it could be longer than that. Because I know them. They come to California every chance they get but don't really hit up Florida too often, just like every other band I love. But, I mean, I guess I can't expect them to tour the country all year round like slaves so they'd come to Florida every few months.
But now this is becoming a little more general. Most of the bands I like seem to leave the Tampa Bay Area out of their tour. Only really shitty bands, like A Skylit Drive and Chiodos, Metro Station and Less Than Jake, Senses Fail and Bright Eyes.
Cat Power, however, tends to just chill in New York and LA, but will get as close as Athens, Georgia or somewhere in North Carolina. That's lame. Have The Decemberists even gone anywhere since they cancelled their tour last year when someone got hella sick? Maybe Colin Meloy has but I don't even know. Brand New has been MIA since 2007 as well. Everyone else chills in LA, San Francisco, San Diego, Mountain View, and Santa Cruz. I don't know, I wish I had better luck with shows. Wish I had better luck in life. You know. Just another reason I miss California!
Anyways, all my posts turn into something they didn't start out to be. This one, for example, started out as me giving you information and turned into me rambling and getting nostalgic. So that's enough of this. Some weird version of Alice in Wonderland is on TV, and I think that's where I'm headed.
Also, I think I'm going to add Harlan as an author on my blog but I'm not sure. What does everybody think? I'm afraid he will try to sabotage the blog. Let's take a vote.

Nick Carter
Last night, or should I say this morning, Nick Carter was in my dream. It was old Nick Carter circa 1998 or so. And I was really excited, like, oh crap, look who it is.
So I thought I'd bring it back.
Don't you think it would be really cool to be in the Backstreet Boys' band? It looks like these guys are having a lot of fun:
The best part is AJ throwing his shirt and the fight to the death that begins to ensue.
Something about these are really disturbing. They look like little man slave puppets, and it's really creepy. I mean, they just get so tired, and the crowd would kill them with obsessive passion if they saw them on the streets.
This, I think, is much more appropriate, when BSB started to tone it down and try to get real serious. I had this VHS when I was younger, I got it from Burger King.

an assortment of good things
1) I need new guitar strings. I'm starting to get depressed about it.

but more importantly, Broken Social Scene. Which is really the only reason I want to go, but you know, I would go anywhere in this state for them if I was able.

okay BSS
So last night was great. I tried to remember the exact order of the songs, but of course, I forgot I have too many holes in my brain to even consider having good sequence memorization. However, I remember most of the songs, and how they played them.
It was outside, which was really cool, and I liked it so much better that it was. The weather was perfect, kinda cold, but a lot of bodies so it felt fine. Land of Talk was the opening band. They're from Quebec, and pretty good. I liked them because it was just pure indie rock, but modernized of course (take note, Guided by Voices, you are boring us new millieniumz all to death). I liked her voice it was sweet but haunting IF YOU WILL. Anyways, nobody cares about Land of Talk, you think, however, they were there not only to open but to support Broken Social. So you had the guitarist there playing guitar from BSS, and he was really good, definitely gets his funk on. And the singer also played guitar and, of course, sang all the necessary girl songs.
Other guests included Andrew Whiteman, who is from Apostle of Hustle, but also helped make You Forgot it in People and was in Bourbon Tabernacle Choir back in the late eighties/early nineties. He is an amazing guitarist and great vocalist, but he's a kinda creepy guy in general. The other guest was, I THINK it was Charles, from Do Make Say Think playing guitar and trumpet. I'm not sure who they had playing the saxophone, but I'm pretty sure they were both at the Filmore last year. They are all Canadians, of course, bless their souls, nothing like Canadian music, I'm telling you.
Alright, so moving on...
They opened with Late Nineties Bedroom Rock for the Missionaries, and then Shampoo Suicide, which was cute since that was the album order. They actually played a lot of good You Forgot it in People songs. KC Accidental, which is always an epic song. Looks Just Like the Sun, which Andrew Whiteman sang obviously. They played Anthem for a Seventeen-Year Old Girl. Towards the end they played Cause=Time, and in the encore they played Stars and Sons.
So amazing, like REALLY. They are the best songs off of that album, really, except no Lover's Spit, or I'm Still Your Fag, but I'm sure they're sick of those.
Nothing from Feel Good Lost, those are a little TOO relaxing, all though I wouldn't have minded some Passport Radio.
From the Broken Social Scene album, they played 7/4 Shoreline and Fire Eye'd Boy towards the beginning. They also played Superconnected and It's All Gonna Break. But the best was Major Label Debut, that song is always so much fun. And, of course, IBI DREAMS OF PAVEMENT was the final final finale, which they involved the crowd, who all screamed at the exact same timing as the horns go off in the end. It was perfect.
They also played newer songs from Brendan Canning, which were Churches Under the Stairs, Hit the Wall, and Love is All. Good songs, definitely funkier. They also played two of Kevin Drew's songs, Farewell to the Pressure Kids, and Fucked Up Kid. I do like Brendan's solo stuff better than Kevin's, but you can definitely see how both of their styles make Broken Social Scene.
Justin Peroff, the drummer, was too, too good, and really, the band would be NOTHING without this guy, because he really makes it. Of course, all the guitarists are incredible, and Brendan is off the chain on the bass. But they all mixed up their instruments, and everyone played at least two different things the whole night. One minute Kevin was playing drums, and Brendan was playing an SG, and then the lead singer from Land of Talk was playing drummers, and Kevin was the on the keyboard, and Charles put down the guitar to play the trumpet.
It was a pretty long set for the most part, but I had no complaints. I could have listen to them for five hours straight. I love them so much. The show had the best energy, and the music was perfect. They always make slight changes, but I always want to hear how they play it differently, because it's still a good sound, just new. And everyone was enjoying it and moving, because really, you just can't not enjoy yourself when they're playing. They are too amazing, they are too good at what they do, and really, I hope they never stop.
If I am in love with anything or anyone, it is this band, and I cannot WAIT to see them again.
Also, I St. Petersburg reminds me of a Floridian San Jose. I liked it.

just got home from Broken Social Scene
They played at Jannus Landing.
It was incredible.
Don't feel like talking about it now, just had to tell everyone that I had the most amazing time, and it has reaffirmed my confidence that they are my favorite band EVER.
I will definitely write more about it tomorrow, my head is still spinning, I am in love.

what a feeling for a dog
el perro del mar is so good. these two are the only good songs she has but they are really good songs. so i guess that makes it a-okay.
I love that she brought a jazz band along. It makes it SO awesome. They're just jamming out together. Sounds so good.
